Attempting to avoid a ticket led to a tragic car accident

On Behalf of | Aug 27, 2020 | Personal Injury

No one likes to see flashing lights in their rearview mirror. It usually means that the driver is about to face a potentially expensive traffic ticket or perhaps even facing criminal charges, such as for DUI. While the experience may be inconvenient and stressful, attempting to flee could result in a serious or deadly car accident.

For example, on a recent Sunday, police attempted to pull over a vehicle at around 11:40 a.m. The driver made the choice to flee. Unfortunately, it resulted in tragedy.

When the vehicle sped away from police, the driver failed to make it around a curve and slammed into a tree. There were two passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash — a woman and a man. The 31-year-old man in the backseat succumbed to the injuries he suffered in the impact. The driver and the other woman survived, but each suffered serious injuries and were transported to a hospital in the area. Their current conditions were unknown at the time of this writing.

The investigation into this preventable crash was ongoing at last report. It appears that speed played a major role in it. The family of the deceased victim and the surviving passenger may need to wait some time before they know whether any other factors contributed to it. Knowing what happened could help establish negligence in any personal injury or wrongful death claim filed in the aftermath of this terrible car accident.
